マスター・レコーディング：15フィート後方、センターのすぐ左。
音質はとても良く、A-と評価したい。前方の音は素晴らしいし、周りの話し声もあまり聞こえない。Downedの最後の方で、私のリグが不可解なことに10秒ほど赤線が出るところがあるが、曲の終わりの一瞬だけで、長い間あまり気にならなかったのはありがたい。それ以外はかなりクリーンでとても聴きやすい録音だ。

この日はメトロの40周年記念ライヴで、チープ・トリックにとっては貴重なクラブ・ライヴだった。
前夜にメトロで行われたプライベート・ベネフィットで、彼らは短いセットを演奏していた。バンドは絶好調で、おそらく私が見たコヴィッド以降のセットでは最高だった。彼らは笑顔で楽しんでいて、エネルギッシュでタイトだった。 彼らにとっては）1時間45分の壮大なセットだった。

伝説的なマイク "ザ・マイク "ミラードに触発され、何人かのテーパー仲間の助けを借りて、ミラードの有名な機材（ヴィンテージのAKG 451eマイクのペアとナカミチの550ポータブル・カセットデッキ）を持ち込んで、LAのグリークでザ・ナショナルを録音することができた。バンドは5年前、バークレーでの2公演を録音し、レコード・ストア・デイのカセット・ボックス・セット『Juicy Sonic Magic』としてリリースした。

コンサートを収録するために1970年代の機材に戻ることは、かなり威圧的であることが判明した。もちろん、デッキはかなり重く扱いにくいし（操作にはDセル電池8本が必要）、適切な録音レベルを設定するのは非常に微妙だし、何十年も練習していないテープをめくるという気の遠くなるような問題もある。何十年も練習していなかったのに、テープをめくるのは大変な作業だ。テープを使い切る前にこの曲は終わるだろうか？いい時代だった。

ヴィンテージのカセットデッキで聴くレコーディングは、オートマチック車とマニュアルトランスミッション車の違いのようなものだ。

また、カセット・マスターの場合、聴いたとおりのものが手に入るかどうか不安になることもある。嬉しいことに、ザ・ナショナルの2公演のうち2日目の夜のアラ・ミラード・レコーディングはかなり良い出来だった。ミラード自身が録音したように聴こえるか？もちろん違う！マイクはG.O.A.T.であり、彼のスウィートスポットにより近い場所に座っていただろうし、まず観客のノイズがそれほど入らないように管理していただろう。また、コンサートのPAは40年前と同じようには聞こえないし、2023年のグリークでの音量レベルが1977年のフォーラムでのレッド・ツェッペリンと同じでないことは確かだ。それなのに、彼が使ったのと同じ機材で作られたこのアナログ・カセット・マスターの音には、独特の懐かしさと魅力がある。サンプル提供

ザ・ナショナルのセットでは、ニュー・アルバム『First Two Pages Of Frankenstein』から数曲が披露されたが、どれもレコーディングされたものよりもロックなサウンドだ。また、今回のツアーでは毎晩セットをかなり変えており、「Demons」、「Sea of Love」、「Apartment Story」、「All The Wine」、「Quiet Light」など、ここ数年あまり演奏されていないファンお気に入りの曲がたくさんある。

公平を期すため、私たちはクッションにテープデッキを隠し、車椅子でショーに乗り込んだわけではない。いつか勇気を出してコンサートでフル・ミラードを披露したいものだ。
